What Are The Symptoms Of Specific Learning Disability?

What Causes Specific Learning Disability?
There is no single known cause at this time.
- Genetic – The history of SLD runs in families. History of neurological problems in the family.

Since parents bring their children to a psychiatrist for reasons apart from SLD, a detailed history workup of the child’s problems in school, at home and in tuition classes is required.
- History Taking – Physical and mental status examination of child is done. Informal assessment of reading, writing, spelling and maths skills is done.
Screening for common co-morbid disorders including ADHD, behaviour problems, depression, anxiety etc.
